Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart well, identifying the key trends for both owned and rented accommodation. You successfully highlighted the crossover point in 1971 and the general inverse relationship between the two categories. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the claim that ownership remained 'almost same for a year' after 1918, which is not clearly supported by the visual data. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data points are precise and that you avoid unnecessary filler phrases. The overview is clear, but could be more concise to better highlight the most significant shifts over the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The use of linking words like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' helps guide the reader through the information. However, the cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel slightly disjointed. For instance, the transition between the 1939 and 1953 data points in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of cohesive devices—moving beyond simple sequence markers—would help the flow of the response feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'downward trend', and 'deduction' appropriately. However, there are some instances of repetitive phrasing and slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'little over 20%' and 'remained same'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'experienced a marginal decline'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'households in owned accommodation was' should be 'were', and 'in year 1971' should be 'in the year 1971'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'started in 1918 as high as 77%'. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for minor errors in articles and prepositions will significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
