Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main trends, such as the decline in rented accommodation and the rise in home ownership. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, you state that rented accommodation was 89% in 1918, which is correct, but then claim it was 78% in 1939 and 1953, which is not supported by the chart. Additionally, the description of the crossover point is confusing, as you mention 1981 and 1971 inconsistently. To improve, ensure that the figures cited accurately reflect the visual data and provide a more precise summary of the key changes over the period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in this year' and 'accounted for'. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, making the text feel like a list of isolated observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'subsequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'accounted for' and 'proportion was a'. There are also spelling errors, such as 'accomomdation'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends with precision; for instance, instead of saying 'highest' or 'lowest', you could use more descriptive terms like 'peaked at', 'reached a low of', or 'experienced a significant decline'. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations related to data description will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the proportion of a 89%'), subject-verb agreement errors ('households in rented accommodation was'), and awkward phrasing ('owned and rented accommodation both are similar in 1971 year'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits your ability to express relationships between the data points effectively. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
