Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response effectively addresses the task by summarizing the main trends in the provided chart. You have successfully identified the key features, such as the initial dominance of rented accommodation, the crossover point in 1971, and the subsequent trends. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the overall development. You have selected relevant data points to support your descriptions, such as the percentages for 1918, 1953, 1971, 1991, and 2011. The information is accurate and well-organized, covering all parts of the task requirements without any significant omissions. The comparison between the two categories is consistent throughout the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the data chronologically. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Moreover', 'Later', and 'However' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. There is a natural flow to the information, making it easy for the reader to follow the trends described. The use of cohesive devices is flexible and contributes to the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the trends, including terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuations', 'accounted for', and 'dipped'. The vocabulary is accurate and appropriate for an academic report. While the range is good, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more sophisticated collocations or varied verbs to describe changes, such as 'witnessed a decline' or 'experienced a surge'. However, the current level is precise and conveys the information clearly without any errors in word choice or collocation that would impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'The bar chart illustrates...' and 'From the chart it is evident that, in 1971, the percentages... were equal'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and there are no major grammatical errors that affect readability. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and you show a good command of tense usage, particularly when referring to historical data. The structure is varied enough to meet the requirements for a high band score.
