Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview of the data. You successfully highlighted the inverse relationship between the two categories and noted the crossover point in 1971. The data is accurately reported, and the key features are well-selected. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are fully supported by the data; for instance, you mentioned a 'peak level' in 2001, which is a good analytical observation. The response is well-structured and covers all parts of the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, a summary of trends, and specific body paragraphs for the data. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'in 1918', 'by 2011', and 'then', which help the flow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect sentences and ideas more fluidly, which would help the text feel less like a list of facts and more like a cohesive report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'prevalent', 'consistently', and 'dominant'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'accomodation' (should be 'accommodation') and 'prevalant' (should be 'prevalent'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and variety of less common lexical items that would elevate the response to a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'there was a completely opposite trends' (should be 'there were completely opposite trends') and 'ownership continued increase' (should be 'continued to increase'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization at the start of sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex structures are used with greater accuracy. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the score.
