Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the main features are identified, the analysis is incomplete; the response ends abruptly while discussing the rented accommodation category, leaving the data for that section largely unaddressed. The overview is present but lacks sufficient detail to fully satisfy the task requirements. To improve, ensure all data trends are described and the response reaches the minimum length to allow for a full development of the information provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'Between the years of', but they are somewhat mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a concluding summary or a completed analysis of the second data set makes the overall flow feel disjointed. Improving the logical connection between sentences and ensuring the essay is complete would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'renting house was more common' and 'incredible downfall' are slightly unnatural in an academic context. There is some repetition of basic verbs like 'rose' and 'showed'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'experienced a significant decline', and avoid informal phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'renting house' (should be 'renting houses' or 'rented accommodation'), 'time line of 1918 to 2011' (should be 'period from 1918 to 2011'), and 'a a small decline'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve accuracy.
