Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. While you have identified the main trend—the shift from rented to owned accommodation—the report is underdeveloped. You have included personal speculation about why people changed their minds, which is not required in an Academic Task 1 report; you should focus strictly on the data provided. Furthermore, the description of the data is imprecise, lacking specific figures for most years. To improve, ensure you report the data accurately and avoid subjective commentary. Because the response is significantly under-length and lacks sufficient detail, it falls into the lower band range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response lacks a clear structure. It is written as a single paragraph, and the progression of ideas is disjointed. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Although' and 'As a result', they are used incorrectly or in a way that does not logically connect the sentences. The lack of clear paragraphing and the repetitive nature of the sentences make the text difficult to follow. To improve, organize your response into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific supporting paragraphs for the data. Use linking words more accurately to show the relationship between the trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'big', 'changed', and 'decreased' repeatedly. There are also significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the people think was suddenly' and 'there goes to decreased', which are not standard English. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'surpassed', or 'a significant decline'. You should also focus on using nouns and verbs correctly to describe statistical changes rather than relying on simple, informal phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with verb tense consistency ('there will increased'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure ('the household owned percentage was more than twenty percent and rented accommodation fall down'). Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary grammatical components to be considered complex. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting more complex ones. Pay close attention to tense usage when describing historical data and ensure that your sentences have a clear subject and verb. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms is essential.
