Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the initial dominance of rented accommodation and the eventual crossover point in 1971. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the statement that rented accommodation was 'half of the owned accommodation' in the final year is inaccurate based on the provided data. Furthermore, some descriptions of trends are vague or confusing, such as the reference to 'one third' and 'two third' proportions, which do not clearly align with the visual data. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are reported with greater precision and that the overall summary accurately reflects the trends shown in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'However', they are often applied incorrectly or in a way that obscures the logical progression of the argument. The use of 'Wherever' as a transition is inappropriate in this context. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information, making the overall structure feel disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'Public interests often growth' instead of 'The proportion of households grew', and 'met the same points' instead of 'reached parity'. The repetition of 'proportion' and 'accommodation' throughout the text indicates a restricted range of vocabulary. To improve, you should focus on using more varied terminology to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'remained stable', and ensure that collocations are used correctly to convey meaning more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are persistent issues with verb tenses, such as 'has been decreases' and 'its has been rises', as well as problems with subject-verb agreement and article usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'households in owned accommodation remained its lowest furthermore over the year peoples preference increases'. A stronger focus on basic sentence construction, correct verb forms, and punctuation is necessary to improve the accuracy and readability of your writing.
