Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the trends for both owned and rented accommodation. However, the overview is somewhat confusingly phrased, particularly the reference to 'the era of 2001' and the description of 1918 as a 'minority volume'. While the key data points are included, the reporting is mechanical, listing figures without sufficient synthesis or comparison. The analysis of the trends is accurate, but the lack of a clear, well-structured overview prevents it from reaching a higher band. The response addresses the requirements of the task but lacks the analytical depth expected for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or misused, such as 'resultingly' and 'competitively', which do not function correctly in this context. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two categories. While there is an attempt to use linking words, the overall flow is mechanical and lacks the flexibility required for a higher band. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'massive rose' (instead of 'massive rise'), 'construct a low bar', and 'achive the highs'. The term 'competitively' is used incorrectly to mean 'respectively' or 'in comparison'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but the frequent errors in collocation and word form hinder the precision of the report. To improve, focus on using nouns and verbs correctly and expanding your range of reporting verbs and comparative phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on simple sentence structures with frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'rented households displays', and incorrect tense usage, such as 'rented accommodation experience'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas in lists of years and percentages. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from achieving a higher score. More attention should be paid to sentence variety and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects.
