The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the number of household in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2111.
Overall we can see that there is an increasing trend of owned accommodation throughout the period and a decrease in the last year as there is a downward trend in rented housing over the period.
As for owned house the percentage was about 21% in 1918 and gradual increased by 31% in 1939. The percentage remained same in 1953 and peaked at around 40 per cent in 1961. The ratio continued to climb gradually and hit a highest point in 2001 around 69%.
In the case of rented housing, the proportion was significantly higher in 1918, at approximately 78% and plummeted to 68% in 1939. The ratio was levelled in 1953 , and then there is an remarkable decline in 1961 was around 58%. The percentage was 50% in 1971 and decreased dramatically to 40% in 1981.
