Student answer (Band 5.0)

The chart below illustrating the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

the highest households renting accommodation in england and wales was in 1918 wooping 78%, and the least household renting accommodation was in 2001 less then half compare to 1918, on the other hand ownig accommodation in 2001 is the highest among all the year, and least in 1918 compare to 2001.

we can see dicline in renting accommodation over the years, however we can see a big rise in owning accommodation by the years, which indicate that people are more interested in own accommodation then renting accommodation, but in 1971 the the percentage remaind same for both renting and owning accommodation.

in conclusion in the past people ware more into renting accommodation then the owning accommodation but it drastically decreased by the years, hower in owning accommodation we can see a big rise over the past years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the trends in renting and owning accommodation. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For example, you mention that 1971 was the year the percentages were the same, which is a good observation, but the description of the data is often vague (e.g., 'wooping 78%'). To reach a higher band, you should ensure that all data points are accurately reported and that the comparison between the two categories is more analytical rather than just listing figures. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the overall shift from renting to owning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'however' and 'on the other hand' are used, but the transitions between sentences feel disjointed). The lack of proper punctuation, such as full stops between independent clauses, makes the text difficult to follow in places. For instance, the second paragraph is a long, run-on sentence that lacks clear internal structure. Improving your use of linking words and ensuring each sentence is clearly demarcated with appropriate punctuation would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'renting' and 'owning' without attempting to vary your language or use more sophisticated synonyms. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'wooping' (whopping), 'dicline' (decline), 'ownig' (owning), and 'ware' (were). These errors, combined with the informal tone (e.g., 'wooping'), suggest a need for a wider range of vocabulary and more attention to spelling. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuate', 'proportion', 'significant', and 'gradual'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. You struggle with basic sentence structure, often creating run-on sentences by using commas instead of full stops. There are also issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'remaind' instead of 'remained') and subject-verb agreement. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practicing the correct use of past tense verbs when describing historical data.
