Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart well. You have successfully identified the key trends, such as the inversion of the two categories over the period and the crossover point in 1971. The overview is clear and highlights the significant shift in housing patterns. However, the response could be improved by being more precise with data points; for example, describing the 1953 data as 'quite similar' is vague when the chart provides specific figures. Additionally, ensure that all years are covered accurately, as the description of the final period is slightly confusing regarding the slight increase in rented accommodation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'respectively', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'After long time' is used twice and is not a natural way to introduce a time period. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the both number') is more precise would help elevate the score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main trends, using terms like 'proportion', 'accommodation', and 'respectively'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'acccommodation', 'ranted' (instead of rented), and 'droped' (instead of dropped). These errors are noticeable but do not impede overall communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms related to the task. The use of 'personal accommodation' is acceptable, but 'owner-occupied' would be more idiomatic in this context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'most of the people had their own accommodation on that time' (should be 'at that time') and 'the both number is quite similar' (should be 'both figures were similar'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are occasionally inconsistent. While you attempt to use complex structures, the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical slips would significantly improve your accuracy.
