Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 2.0

The response fails to address the task prompt. The instructions clearly ask for a summary of a chart regarding household accommodation in England and Wales (1918–2011). However, the student has written about export values for petroleum, engineering goods, and textiles between 2015 and 2016. Because the content is entirely unrelated to the provided prompt, the response is considered off-topic. While the student does attempt to report data and make comparisons, these efforts are irrelevant to the actual task requirements. Consequently, the response cannot be assessed as having fulfilled the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. There is an attempt at an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is hindered by the fact that the content is completely disconnected from the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In term of', and 'On the other hand' are used, but they are often applied mechanically or with grammatical errors (e.g., 'In term of' should be 'In terms of'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow is disrupted by the lack of relevance to the source material.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for describing data, using terms like 'proportion change', 'revenue', 'export earnings', and 'categories'. However, there are frequent spelling errors such as 'clealy', 'earnin', 'jewellarya', 'ganreted', and 'relatives' (used instead of 'relative to'). The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and the errors in word formation and spelling occasionally make the text difficult to read. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of accuracy in word choice and spelling prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'the petroleum products earned 60 $billion' (incorrect currency placement), 'Gems and jewellery exports making' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'textile worth increased... which was 15.24% followed by engineering goods gain 8.5%' (awkward phrasing and missing prepositions). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and spacing issues. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction is noticeable.
