Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to accurately report the main features. The overview is factually incorrect, stating that 'maximum households lived in personal house' throughout the period, which contradicts the data showing a significant shift toward rented accommodation. Furthermore, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains several inaccuracies, such as the claim that 75% of people lived in personal houses in 1918, whereas the chart shows a much lower figure. The description of trends is fragmented, and the failure to correctly interpret the crossover point between the two categories prevents a clear summary of the information provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To begin with', 'overall'), they are often applied mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is frequently unclear, and the transition between ideas is disjointed. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information, making the text feel like a list of disconnected observations rather than a coherent summary. The lack of clear logical flow between the trends described in the body paragraphs hinders the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'house' and 'lived in'. There are significant errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'house holder' instead of 'households' and 'rent house' instead of 'rented accommodation'. The term 'pollution' is used incorrectly in place of 'population', which significantly impacts the clarity of the message. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the trends with precision, and the persistent errors in terminology demonstrate a lack of control over the required academic register for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('The given line chart show', '32% peoples were lived'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and capitalization. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are almost always inaccurate, leading to confusion. The high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band, as the reader must constantly struggle to interpret the intended meaning behind the flawed grammar.
