Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately interpret the trends. The overview is confusing, incorrectly stating that renting increased and owning decreased, when the chart shows the opposite long-term trend. Furthermore, the response confuses the data by mentioning 'Whales' (Wales) as a separate entity from England, whereas the chart represents both regions combined. The data points provided are often inaccurate or poorly described, such as claiming 1971 showed the same trend for both categories at 50% when the chart shows different figures. The summary at the end is also factually incorrect based on the provided visual information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak due to the factual inaccuracies and confusing sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In summary' and 'However', but they are often used incorrectly or in contexts that do not make sense. For example, the transition 'While, in 1939 and 1953 showed the similar trend' is grammatically and logically disjointed. The referencing is unclear, and the flow of information is frequently interrupted by errors in data reporting, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrases like 'highest proportion' and 'lowest percentage'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'owning apartments will decreased' and 'renting house was the highest proportion'. The student also misspells 'Wales' as 'Whales'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the trends with precision, and the misuse of terms like 'apartments' instead of 'accommodation' further detracts from the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with tense consistency, such as using 'will gradually increased' and 'will decreased' to describe past data. Subject-verb agreement is also problematic, for instance, 'households renting accommodation was highest proportion'. Punctuation is inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and capitalization errors. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are almost always inaccurate, leading to a lack of clarity throughout the text.
