Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main trends, such as the crossover point in 1971 and the general inverse relationship between owned and rented accommodation. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains factual inaccuracies; for instance, the text claims owned accommodation decreased since 2011, which is not supported by the data provided. Furthermore, the description of the trends is repetitive and lacks a clear overview of the data's significance. To improve, ensure that the data points cited are accurate and that the overview clearly synthesizes the overall trend rather than just listing individual years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into a single block of text, which makes it difficult to follow. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression, the lack of paragraphing and the repetitive nature of the sentences hinder the flow. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'In comparative households usage got highest'. The referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult for the reader to track the comparison between the two categories over the decades. Using clear paragraph breaks and a wider variety of linking words would significantly improve the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'usage', 'households', and 'accommodation'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'people shift there’s usage' (incorrect use of 'there's') and 'people shit their usage of daily things' (a significant spelling error and inappropriate word choice). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the trends with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'surpassed', or 'proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'households in rented accommodations got highest percentage', and incorrect sentence structures, such as 'indicate that how people shift'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for basic errors like 'there's' vs 'their' would be beneficial.
