Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the overall trends for owned and rented accommodation. However, the analysis is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While the key data points are mentioned, the description of the trends is occasionally confusing, particularly when discussing specific years. The response would benefit from a more structured approach, such as grouping the data by trend rather than listing years chronologically in a way that obscures the main comparison. The conclusion is essentially a restatement of data rather than a synthesis of the most significant changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks effective paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. The text is presented as a single block, and the transition between sentences is often mechanical or abrupt. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'On the other hand', 'Similarly'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or do not effectively link the ideas. The logical flow is hindered by the repetitive nature of the reporting, and the lack of clear paragraph breaks makes the structure feel disjointed. Improved paragraphing would significantly enhance the clarity of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and somewhat repetitive. Phrases like 'households in rented houses' and 'households in owned accomodations' are used repeatedly, which makes the writing feel monotonous. There are also spelling errors, such as 'accomodations' (should be 'accommodations') and 'occured' (should be 'occurred'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. To improve, you should use synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'witnessed a sharp decline', or 'remained relatively stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('in owned years'), incorrect prepositions, and punctuation errors. The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying heavily on 'there is' or 'we see' constructions. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and spelling is noticeable and occasionally distracts the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would help improve the accuracy of your writing.
