Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the overall inverse relationship between owned and rented accommodation. However, the reporting is somewhat mechanical, listing figures chronologically without sufficient synthesis or comparison. While the overview is present, it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the crossover point. The description of the data is generally accurate, but the lack of sophisticated grouping of information limits the score. To improve, focus on highlighting the most striking changes rather than listing every data point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive or awkward, such as 'further it reached' and 'another incline of 10%'. The progression of ideas is logical, but the transitions between sentences feel mechanical rather than fluid. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the connection between the two main body paragraphs could be strengthened by using more varied linking phrases to contrast the two trends more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'delineated in percentage', 'gust take off', and 'rent house'. The student relies on basic verbs like 'increased' and 'declined' repeatedly. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or varied vocabulary prevents a higher score. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to data trends, such as 'a steady decline' or 'a significant surge'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('both meets at center'), article usage ('the owned house by family'), and tense inconsistencies ('it has gust take off'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper capitalization or ending punctuation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing.
