Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides a general overview and identifies key trends, such as the inverse relationship between owned and rented accommodation. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the task. While the main features are highlighted, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the 1971 crossover point is brief, and the concluding sentence is vague ('increased more than past'). To improve, you should provide more detailed comparisons and ensure the response is sufficiently long to fully cover the data provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, which is a logical structure for a report. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical. Phrases like 'The highest percentage... shows in 1918' and 'It is recorded...' are repetitive. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas smoothly between sentences. While the progression of information is generally clear, the reliance on simple sentence structures and repetitive phrasing hinders the flow of the response. Improving the variety of transition signals would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You use terms like 'domestic units' and 'leased residential' correctly, but there is noticeable repetition of basic verbs such as 'shows', 'recorded', and 'indicated'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'leased residential' instead of 'rented accommodation'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'surpassed', and avoid repeating the same sentence structures to describe data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'The highest percentage of family units in leased accommodation shows in 1918'. There are also issues with article usage and punctuation, such as 'the minimum percentage... presents in 1918. it is indicated...'. The frequent errors in basic grammar and the lack of a wider range of complex structures limit the score. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
