The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given bar graph depicts the information regarding the proportion of house owners and rented houses in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.

Overall, it is clearly seen that the percentage of household owners showed downward trend, whereas the rented accommodation showed upward trend in the given time period.

In details, in the year 1918, household ownership stood at 23% which was slowly increase and reached at 31% in the year 1953. Despite the rented accommodation was the peak point in the year 1918, nearly 75% , whereas the percentage of renting houses slightly decrease and reached at the 68% in the year 1953. But in the next year 1961, 59% of houses was on rent, which ch was closely followed by the ownership, valued at approximately 41%. In the year 1971, proportion of both houses remained stable(50%).

This trend continued in the year 1981, the household ownership was moderately incline and touch its peak point in the year 2001(69%). But in the last year the figure was slightly dropped, noted at 65%. However, the rental houses showed a downward trend and at end touched its lowest point in the year 2011(35%).
