Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a general overview of the trends, but it lacks a clear, distinct 'overview' paragraph that highlights the most significant changes. While the student identifies the start and end points, the description of the trends is somewhat repetitive and lacks analytical depth. The data selection is generally accurate, but the report would benefit from more precise comparisons between the two categories at specific intervals. To improve, ensure you clearly group the data and provide a summary of the main trends separately from the detailed data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Whereas, the households in owned accommodation has...' and 'Moreover, there is opposite in data...'. The progression of ideas is clear, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall cohesion would benefit from a wider variety of linking words and better sentence-level integration.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. The student relies on basic phrasing like 'towering percentage', 'rough figure', and 'less amount of individuals'. There are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'opposite in data' and 'bars certainly grown'. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined steadily', or 'proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder readability, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('households... has', 'bars... grown') and awkward phrasing ('the described bar chart reveals the data about'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often clunky. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions to ensure more error-free sentences.
