Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the overall trends for both owned and rented accommodation. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of '1953' is inaccurate as the chart does not provide data for that specific year, and the description of the 1971 data point as '50' lacks the necessary unit (percent). While the overview is present, the report would benefit from more precise data selection and a clearer comparison between the two categories throughout the period. The inclusion of non-existent data points suggests a need for more careful observation of the provided visual information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a clear overview. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving on to', and 'Overall' are used to guide the reader through the information. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the 1981 and 2001 data points. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between sentences could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends using terms like 'upward trend' and 'downward trend'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'accommadtion' and 'housholds', which are distracting. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure greater precision when discussing statistical data. The current range is sufficient to convey meaning but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the count of households in owned accommadtion was least in initial year' (missing articles) and 'the count of homeowner was 20 percent more' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in comma placement. The student demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
