Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have identified the main trends, the description is incomplete, as the final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence. You have successfully highlighted the starting and ending points and noted the crossover in 1971, but the analysis lacks depth and fails to cover the entire period comprehensively due to the unfinished nature of the text. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis and provide a more thorough comparison of the data points throughout the timeline.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the structure is compromised by the incomplete final sentence. You use some cohesive devices like 'whereas' and 'on contrast' (which should be 'in contrast'), but the flow is somewhat mechanical. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is logical, but the abrupt ending prevents a cohesive conclusion. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and logically connected to the next, avoiding fragmented or incomplete thoughts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You use terms like 'surpassing', 'balanced', and 'steadily', which are appropriate, but there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in two state of UK' (should be 'in the two countries') and 'on contrast' (should be 'in contrast'). The range of vocabulary is limited, and the repetition of 'percentage' and 'households' suggests a need for more synonyms. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends and data reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Examples include 'initially the percentage of rented house was surpassing' (should be 'rented housing was surpassing'), 'after the half way' (should be 'after the halfway point'), and 'people gradually stated to buy house' (should be 'people gradually started to buy houses'). Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for basic sentence construction will help reduce these errors.
