Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, including the trends for both owned and rented accommodation. You successfully identified the crossover point in 1971 and the general inverse relationship between the two categories. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting; for example, you mention 'nearby 80%' and 'up to 50%' without clearly linking these to the specific start and end points of the trends. To improve, ensure that you provide more accurate data points from the graph to support your descriptions, as this is essential for a higher band score in Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different time periods. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Moving futher to remaining aspects at first'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus to help the reader follow your argument more easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'increment', and 'downfall'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'accomondation', 'experianced', 'glace', and 'futher'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the report. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and refining your word choices to be more precise, such as using 'decline' or 'reduction' instead of 'downfall' in this context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'proportion of households who is rented' (subject-verb agreement), 'Whereas dramatic downfall was experianced' (missing article), and 'people who owned the houses was a very downward' (incorrect word form/structure). These errors occur throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and sentence construction. Focusing on proofreading for these common errors will significantly improve your clarity and accuracy.
