Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Furthermore, the content is incomplete; the summary stops abruptly after describing only a portion of the data, failing to cover the full timeframe (1918–2011) or provide a comprehensive overview of the trends. The introduction contains factual inaccuracies regarding the dates (stating 1981 instead of 1918), and the analysis lacks the necessary detail to fully address the prompt. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the task are covered, include all relevant data points, and meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full development of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into an introduction, an overview, and one body paragraph. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression, the abrupt ending prevents a coherent conclusion or a full analysis. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'Then', but the transitions are somewhat mechanical. The paragraphing is insufficient because the response is incomplete, making the overall structure feel fragmented. To improve, ensure that you provide a complete analysis with clear paragraph breaks for each main trend and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'highest value'. There are also spelling errors, such as 'Additionaly' and 'acccomodation'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', 'surpassed', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling will help demonstrate a more sophisticated control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'in the period of 1981' should be 'between 1918 and 2011', and 'owned accomodation stood at nearly 80 percent' lacks an article. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions, and try to vary your sentence structures to include more complex forms.
