Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered the entire period from 1918 to 2011 and highlighted the key crossover point in 1971. The data is accurately reported, and the comparison between owned and rented accommodation is consistent throughout the response. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is more distinct from the body paragraphs and avoid minor inaccuracies in the summary, such as referring to the UK when the prompt specifically mentions England and Wales. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that follow a chronological progression. You use cohesive devices such as 'while', 'on the other hand', 'conversely', and 'however' effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different time periods. The progression of information is smooth, and the reader can easily follow the development of the trends. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in sentence-level flow could make the text even more cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'proportion of homeowners', 'remained almost unchanged', and 'slight reversal' are used effectively. However, there are some repetitive structures and minor word-choice issues, such as 'accommodation of household in owned are increased', which is grammatically awkward and lexically imprecise. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure that your collocations are natural. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'accommodation of household in owned are increased' (should be 'the percentage of owned accommodation increased') and 'accommodation of household in rented are decreased' (should be 'rented accommodation decreased'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a lack of full control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
