Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You selected relevant data points, such as the starting percentages in 1918 and the final figures in 2011, to support your summary. However, the task requires a more precise analysis of the data. For instance, you mention that figures 'fluctuated', but the graph shows a relatively consistent trend rather than significant fluctuation. Additionally, the mathematical sum of your 1918 figures (84% + 22% = 106%) suggests a slight misinterpretation of the data presentation, as these categories should ideally complement each other or be described more carefully. Overall, the response covers the requirements well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In 1918', 'By contrast', and 'However' to guide the reader through the information. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the general trend to specific data points. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'substantial change', and 'accumulating'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'accumulating for 22%', which is not the most natural way to express the data. Additionally, there is a spelling error in 'contituent' and 'cleary'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are consistently accurate and natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'the rate of the households' (unnecessary article) and 'the ninety-three years period' (should be 'ninety-three-year period'). Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and compound adjectives. Your control of basic grammar is generally solid.
