Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview. You have selected key data points, such as the peak of rented accommodation in 1918 and the peak of owned accommodation in 2001. However, the task achievement is slightly limited by a few inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention '2018' instead of '1918' in the body paragraph, and the claim that owned housing remained constant for two years after 2001 is not clearly supported by the visual data provided. To reach a higher band, ensure that all dates and figures are transcribed accurately from the chart and that the overview highlights the most significant shifts more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Following this' to guide the reader. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of 'Following this' at the start of consecutive sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the linking phrases to create a more natural progression of ideas. Overall, the information is easy to follow, but the cohesion lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'predominantly', 'persistently', and 'accommodation'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'had been surged' (should be 'had surged') and 'showed predominantly improvement' (should be 'showed a predominant improvement'). Additionally, 'ratio of accommodation' is not the most precise way to describe the percentage of households. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, the errors in word formation and collocation prevent a higher score. Focusing on more natural collocations will improve your precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use passive voice and complex time clauses, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'either they had owned or rented houses' (incorrect structure), 'the owned accommodation stood only at the 23%' (unnecessary article), and 'showed persistently decline trend' (should be 'persistent decline'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and adverbs. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences will help you move into the 7.0 band.
