Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar graph compares the proportion of privately purchased home and rented houses in England and Wales in 1918 as well as 2011.
Overall, privately owned households amount sharply soared from 1918 to 2001 and slight fall in 2011. The same number of accommodation was seen in 1971.
In 1918, household in owned accommodation accounted for above one-fifth, making it the lowest figure compared to the others. A minimal incline was seen in 1939 and 1953, which was the same amount (almost one-third), each. While, there was noticeable surge from 40% in 1961 to half in 1971. Whereas, it continuously increased until 2001 to below 70%, which was the highest proportion among other years and it slightly declined in 2011, with more than 60%.
Turning to the rented accommodation, it stood at around three-quarters, which was the biggest amount compared to the owner-occupied households. A substantial drop was noticed from 1939 to 1981, with 40%. However, the same number of accommodations were presented in 1991 and 2001, which was the more than 30%, each. There was dramatic jump in 2011 to around 35%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data well, identifying the key trends for both owned and rented accommodation. You successfully highlight the inverse relationship between the two categories over the period. However, the overview is slightly confusing; stating that the 'same number of accommodation was seen in 1971' is inaccurate based on the chart, as the lines intersect but do not represent the same total percentage of the whole. Additionally, some data points are described with slight imprecision (e.g., 'below 70%' for 2001, which is closer to 68%). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview captures the most significant trends clearly without including minor inaccuracies.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two categories. The progression of ideas is generally clear. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Turning to', 'However', and 'Whereas' to link ideas. However, some transitions are used awkwardly, such as 'While, there was noticeable surge' and 'Whereas, it continuously increased'. These connectors are sometimes used as sentence starters where they do not grammatically fit. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your writing feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', 'incline', and 'surge'. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'privately purchased home' instead of 'privately owned' and 'biggest amount' instead of 'highest proportion'. The phrase 'same number of accommodations were presented' is also slightly unnatural in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Focusing on collocations and more academic phrasing will enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'privately owned households amount sharply soared' (incorrect verb usage), 'household in owned accommodation' (missing article), and 'the more than 30%' (incorrect article usage). Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Increasing your control over basic grammar and ensuring subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your writing.
