Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview of the data. You have selected key features, such as the initial high percentage of rented accommodation and the subsequent shift toward home ownership. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two categories at specific points in time. For instance, noting the 'crossover' point where ownership overtook renting would have strengthened the response. The data points are generally accurate, though the description of the 1961-2001 period as a 'sharp drop' is a good observation that captures the essence of the trend well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the general overview to specific data points. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'To conclude' to link your ideas. While the structure is functional, the flow between sentences could be more sophisticated. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be tighter to avoid repetitive sentence structures. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to a coherent reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'significant', and 'proportion'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'own houses' is better expressed as 'home ownership' or 'owner-occupied housing', and 'own proprietorship' is not standard terminology in this context. Additionally, 'Whales' is a spelling error for 'Wales'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of academic collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'rented houses have occupied' (should be 'accounted for' or 'represented'), 'own houses... has shown' (subject-verb agreement error), and '64 proportion' (should be '64 percent'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with capitalization and article usage. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these small errors limits the score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that nouns are modified by appropriate adjectives or quantifiers.
