Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart, identifying the overall trends for both rented and owned accommodation. You successfully highlight the peak in 1918 for rented housing and the peak in 2001 for owned housing. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While you mention the trends, the description of the data is occasionally imprecise, such as using 'self areas' or 'own area' instead of 'owned accommodation'. To improve, ensure you provide a more cohesive summary of the key shifts over the period rather than just listing data points. The information is generally accurate, but the lack of clarity in terminology slightly hinders the overall impact.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'whereases' is used incorrectly, and the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the self areas are less in first', which makes the logical progression difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'subsequently', 'in contrast to') and ensure that your pronouns and references clearly point back to the subjects previously mentioned.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'high', 'down', and 'less', and there are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'self accommodation' and 'in first'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly ambiguous. While you attempt to use some descriptive language like 'dramatically' and 'moderately', the overall range is restricted. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'surpassed', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the categories provided in the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('household... was represent'), missing articles ('in first'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('the own area proportion has climb'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper structure. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for verb tenses and pluralization would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
