Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by presenting an overview of the main trends and making relevant comparisons between the two housing categories from 1918 to 2011. The student correctly identifies the starting and ending percentages, the crossing point in 1971 at 50%, and the peak figures in 2001. Key features such as the upward trend for owned accommodation and the downward trajectory for rented accommodation are clearly reported. Although some numerical descriptions could be slightly more polished, the response provides a well-developed summary that fully satisfies the requirements of Academic Task 1, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The text exhibits a generally clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview. The student attempts to use cohesive devices and sequencing language such as 'Overal', 'Specifically', and 'Another significant feature demonstrated in that chart'. However, paragraphing is somewhat rudimentary, and cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, seen in awkward transitional phrasing like 'For households in owned accomodation were completely different situation'. Reference links between sentences occasionally feel slightly disjointed. Nevertheless, there is a logical progression of ideas from general trends down to specific data points and intersections, which supports a clear reading of the chart.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying statistical information using terms such as 'percentage', 'peak quantity', 'decline', and 'growing'. However, there are notable spelling errors and lexical inaccuracies, such as 'accomodation' (spelled with a single 'm'), 'Overal', 'tends do decreasing', and 'reached its peak quantity'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, word choices and collocations occasionally lack precision. The lexical range is minimally sufficient to communicate the main features, but frequent spelling slips and awkward phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher band in this category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including subject-verb agreement issues and preposition misuse, such as 'households in owned accomodation are increased in its amount', 'tends do decreasing', and 'in 1918 year the percentage... reached its peak quantity by aproximately 77% and started decline'. Additionally, sentence structures occasionally become convoluted, such as 'For households in owned accomodation were completely different situation in year 1918 they had only about 22%'. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, though they do not completely impede overall communication.
