Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, comparing owned and rented accommodation between 1918 and 2011. You successfully highlight the crossover point in 1971 and general trends such as the rise in homeownership and the fall in renting. However, some data points are inaccurate or poorly expressed, such as stating 'the consumption of rented accommodation' instead of the proportion or percentage, and mentioning that private housing decreased to 65% in the next ten years when the chart shows it stabilized or dropped slightly from 68%. Furthermore, the scope includes more years than just 1918 and 2011, which you do capture in the body paragraphs, but the overview lacks a comprehensive summary of the wider timeframe. These limitations place your response in Band 5.5 to 6.0; you have addressed the task reasonably well, but with some inaccuracies in data reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
Your writing is divided into logical paragraphs covering the introduction, body details for rented and owned homes, and an overall summary. This gives the text a coherent overall arrangement. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences within paragraphs are strung together with basic linking or abruptly started without smooth transitions, as seen in 'In 1918, alomst 85% houses... by 1961 around 58%...' where clauses are run together without proper punctuation. Referencing and progression could also be smoother; the second paragraph abruptly shifts between renting and owning without clear signposting. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion needs more careful management to reach a higher band. Overall, your organizational structure meets the criteria for Band 5.5 to 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to discuss percentages, trends, and time periods using terms like 'fluctuate', 'decline dramatically', and 'grow significantly'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations that pull your score down. For instance, using 'consumption of rented accommodation' is unnatural, as 'consumption' is typically used for goods or energy rather than housing. Additionally, spelling errors such as 'alomst' and lowercase country names like 'england and wales' detract from precision. You attempt some less common vocabulary, but these slips in word choice and spelling limit your lexical score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and time markers such as 'In 1918, alomst 85% houses... which grow significantly over the next eight decades'. However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and article use, such as 'percentage of households... was rented' (instead of were), 'Equal amount of houses was owned', and missing articles ('the consumption of rented accommodation decline'). Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, including missing commas and lowercase letters for 'england and wales'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents you from achieving a Band 6.0, placing your grammar at Band 5.0.
