Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the chart showing accommodation trends in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011, but it falls short of the required 150 words, reaching only 144 words. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off abruptly at the end ('in 1961'). While an overview is attempted in the second paragraph ('Overall, it can be clearly seen...'), the ideas are confused, repetitive, and contain confusing phrasing such as 'england mortals rented accommodation most'. Key data points are inaccurately reported or inadequately described, such as 'near 88' for 1918 rented accommodation. Because the task is incomplete and under-length, and fails to adequately select and report main features, it meets the criteria for a band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organizational structure of the response is extremely weak. Although there is an attempt at an introduction and an overview paragraph followed by body paragraphs, the text lacks logical progression and is abruptly cut off. Paragraphing is mishandled, with the final body paragraph stopping mid-sentence ('in 1961'). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive and mechanical transitions like 'To commence with' and confusing referencing. The overall arrangement fails to present a clear, coherent progression of information, keeping the cohesion score at a band 4.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and frequently incorrect. Words like 'percentile' are misused instead of 'percentage', and strange phrasing such as 'england mortals' demonstrates severe limitations in word choice and collocation. Spelling and word-form errors are widespread, including 'maximium', 'minimium', 'hoseholds', 'intrested', 'populance', 'incresed', and 'samed'. The range of vocabulary is severely limited and repetitive, with frequent errors that strain the reader's understanding and impede communication, placing it firmly at band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences that are frequently marred by basic structural errors. Examples of severe grammatical inaccuracies include 'the maximium percentage number of households owned and rented in england mortals rented accommodation most', 'There was same percentage of hoseholds owned accommodation', and 'the most of individuals household rented a house'. Punctuation and capitalization are poorly controlled, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences ('in 1939', 'in1953'). Frequent errors distort meaning throughout the short text, resulting in a band score of 4.0.
