Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar graph illustrates the information about the percentage of households in owned as well in rented accommodations in England and Walves between 1918 and 2011.
Overall, it is clear that earlier, the maximum households were living in the rented accommodations of England and walves. Whereas, in the latter years, people owned their homes and maximum proportion of huseholds lived in their own houses.
It is clearly seen that between the years, 1918 and 1961, more than 58% of households prefered to live in the rented accommodations, while, the the percentage of owned houses were quite less, which was below 40%. Meanwhile, in the year, 1971, a constant ratio of households renting as well as owning accommodations, was observed.
Moving towards the year 1981 and 1991, the percentage of households in the owned houses increased to about 60% and 68%, respectively, with a dramatic decline in the ratio of families in the rented houses, to about 40% and 32%, alternatively. Similarily, in the year 2001, the ratio of families in the owned houses incline to around 70%, with a slight decline in the ratio of families in the rented houses, to 31%. Followed by a steady decline in the latter year, to around 63% in the percentage of households in the owned houses , while, the proportion of the households in the rented accommodations increased, marginally to around 36%, in the year, 2011.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons between owned and rented accommodation over the 93-year period. The overview correctly captures the primary shift from a rented-dominated market in 1918 to an owner-dominated market in later decades. Key data points, such as the peak of homeownership around 2001 (69%) and the initial high percentage of renters (77%), are accurately cited. However, there are minor inaccuracies in some data reporting, such as stating that 'more than 58% of households prefered to live in the rented accommodations' for the 1918-1961 period, whereas the figure started at 77% and gradually declined. Despite this slight over-generalisation, the response satisfies the requirements well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall progression and is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview, and concluding with detailed body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'It is clearly seen that', and 'Moving towards the year 1981 and 1991'. However, some cohesive links are misused or mechanically applied, such as the incorrect use of 'alternatively' instead of 'respectively', and 'Similarily' followed by a slight spelling error. Paragraphing is adequate, but the transition between ideas occasionally feels a bit disjointed due to awkward phrasing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'proportion', 'dramatic decline', and 'marginally'. However, there are several lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including spelling mistakes such as 'Walves' instead of 'Wales' and 'huseholds' instead of 'households'. Other lexical slips involve incorrect collocations or word forms, such as 'prefered' (spelling), 'incline' instead of 'increased' or 'climbed', and the misuse of 'alternatively'. These errors indicate a Band 6 level for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and participial phrases like 'Followed by a steady decline in the latter year'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are issues with article usage, prepositional phrases ('in owned as well in rented accommodations'), and verb tense/form errors ('the percentage of owned houses were quite less', 'ratio of families... incline to around 70%'). Punctuation is also occasionally intrusive, with unnecessary commas disrupting the flow of sentences. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the text from reaching a higher band score.
