Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all key parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making relevant comparisons across the period from 1918 to 2011. The overview correctly identifies the primary trend that rented accommodation decreased while owned accommodation increased significantly. Key data points are cited, such as rented accommodation starting at 77% in 1918 and owned accommodation reaching 69% in 2001. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies; for instance, the student states that owned accommodation started at 22% in 1918 (the actual chart value is 23%) and that rented accommodation touched 37 in 2011 (the actual figure is 36). Despite these slight misreadings, the overall trends and comparisons are adequately reported, satisfying the core requirements of Task Achievement at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement and attempts to structure the information logically with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, with several short, abrupt paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes mechanically or awkwardly, such as 'In overview', 'Than it remained stable', and 'If we compare both so we can see'. Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas can feel disjointed due to the heavy reliance on short sentences and repetitive transitional phrases. Overall, the organization is coherent enough to follow, but it lacks the smooth flow expected in higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the basic trends through words such as 'percentage', 'stable', 'falling', and 'increase'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'accomodation' (spelled with a single 'm'), 'beggining', and unnatural collocations like 'rented households accommodation'. The student attempts less common vocabulary, but precision is lacking. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, which restricts the score to this level, though communication is not severely impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'Despite this, it start decreasing with the time' and 'If we compare both so we can see that...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'it start decreasing' instead of 'started', 'reached at' instead of 'reached', 'between 1918 to 2011' instead of 'between 1918 and 2011'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in several places. These errors occur regularly throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall communication.
