Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the chart, providing a general overview and selecting specific data points from various years. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the student states that in 1918 rented houses accounted for approximately '79%' (actual is 77%), and later states 'the rented house was decrease around 31%' for 2001 (actual is 31% of households, but the phrasing confuses the trend). Furthermore, some chronological references and comparative values are mixed up or inverted, showing a lack of precision in reporting the data. Despite these issues, the main trends of rising homeownership and declining rentals are partially addressed, placing this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, which helps structure the writing, but the overall progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence construction. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'After analyzing the bar chart', and 'In addition' are used, but their mechanical application does not always establish a clear logical connection between sentences. Referencing is also unclear in places, making it hard to follow which data corresponds to which category. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better logical sequencing to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on terms like 'percentage', 'ratio', 'house', and 'accommodation'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'the people own house', 'the ratio of rent house was remaind stable', and 'the dat was gradually decline'. Spelling mistakes also occur, such as 'approximatle'. While the range is minimally adequate to convey a basic topic-related message, frequent lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of these attempts are faulty. Frequent grammatical errors include tense and verb form mistakes ('was decrease', 'was remaind stable'), missing prepositions, and awkward punctuation (such as spaces before commas). For example, 'the rented house was decrease around 31%' and 'the highest data of the household in owned accommodation in 2001 with 69%' demonstrate poor control over basic clause structures. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and typify Band 5 grammar.
