Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, noting the overall trends and key figures for both owned and rented accommodation between 1918 and 2011. The writer correctly identifies that home ownership increased overall while renting decreased, alongside specific data points like the peak in renting in 1918 (77%) and the crossover around 1971 (50%). However, there is a minor mechanical inclusion of the prompt instructions ("we summarize the information...") in the opening paragraph, which is unnecessary. Furthermore, some data points are slightly inaccurate compared to the raw data (e.g., reporting 22% instead of 23% for 1918, and 62% instead of 64% for 2011). Despite these minor deviations, all parts of the task are addressed and appropriate comparisons are made, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text is arranged into two paragraphs, providing an introduction and an overview/body paragraph structure. However, paragraphing is underdeveloped; the response would benefit from separating the overview from the detailed body data. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas (e.g., "then", "furthermore", "moreover"), but their use is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Referencing and progression are generally clear enough to follow the narrative of the chart, but the lack of distinct paragraphing and mechanical transitions prevent it from achieving a higher score. Overall arrangement is coherent, aligning with Band 6 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to data reporting such as "percentage", "chart", "illustrates", and "gradually increase". There are several spelling and word-form errors, such as "household" instead of "households", "accomodation" with a misspelled double 'c', and mixing tenses or incorrect verb forms like "it is decrease" and "is peak". Less common vocabulary is attempted with some inaccuracy, but the errors do not impede communication. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptor for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though simple structures dominate. There are noticeable grammatical errors throughout, particularly with verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement (e.g., "the percentage of the household in owned and rented accommodation... illustrates that... we summarize", "it is gradually increase", "is peak", "is increase"). Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., "after 2001 it is decrease"). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur frequently, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0 for grammar.
