IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The barchart depicts the ratio of accommodation of people in the form of ownership and rented in England and Whales in the year of 1918 to 2011.

Overall, it is clear from the graph that percentage of the household in rented accommodation is relatively high in intial year in 1918 as compared to owned accommodation. This trend became equal for both accommodation in 1971. Moreover, the ratio of owned accommodation began to increase after 1981.

To begin with, in 1918, the propotion of rented accommodation was significantly high as compared to owned houses that was 75% and 22% respectively. Afterthat, the percentage of house ownership began to rise and the percentage of rented houses decreased dramatically. However, in 1971, these trends were at the same ratio of 50%,50% for both.

Ultimately, after 1981, the ratio of owned accommodation rose slightly and continued to rise in 2011 about 62% in 2011. However, the trend of rented accommodation flauctated after 1981 to 2011 from 40% to 30% and then 35%.
