The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided bar chart illustrates the percentage of households accomodated in owned and the rented ones in England and Whales during the years 1918 and 2011.

Overall, a significant rise in the households residing in the owned properties were noticed over the years. However, a quite opposite was the case for rented accomodations, a steady downfall in percentages was observed in the following years.

A significant change in figures were observed for the households in owned properties. During the year 1918, the percentage was around 23%, subsequently a gradual increase was to be found with the highest peak at around 69%. For the years 1991 till 2011 the percentages remained near to 65%.

Nevertheless, declining percentages in the rented households were noticed. It started from just above 75% in 1918, fluctuated for the years till 1953 with figures lying around nearly 65%. However, for the following years it came down to approximately 31% in the year 2001, with a slight increase in percentage in the year 2011, 38% respectively.
