This line graph chart shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

In 1918, only 22% household is owned accomodation in England while 78% household is rented. It's almost same percentage in 1939 and 1953 but household rented decreases and household owned icrease by 10%. The graph shows that the household increase 10% after every 10 years from 1961 to 2001, on the other hand the household that are rented accomodation decrease 10% after every year from 1961 to 2001. The graph changes a little bit in 2011, household owned decrease and household rented increase.

From year 1918 to 1961 many people live in rented accomodation and from year 1981 to 2011 more than 50% of people live in owned hosehold accomodation.

It means if we see 100 years back many people in England and Wales can not afford to buy a house but after every 10 years people started buying houses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main trends in the chart, noting the initial higher rate of rented accommodation in 1918 and the subsequent crossover where homeownership became dominant. However, there are significant inaccuracies in reading the data points (e.g., claiming 22% owned in 1918 when it was 23%, and stating that ownership increased by exactly 10% every 10 years from 1961 to 2001, which is not supported by the data). Furthermore, the overview lacks a clear summary of the overall trends, and the response drifts slightly into personal speculation in the final paragraph. Because the data reporting is imprecise and contains factual misinterpretations of the visual information, this performance meets the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into four distinct paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body details, and a concluding summary. However, the logical progression is hindered by confusing transitions and imprecise referencing (e.g., 'It's almost same percentage in 1939 and 1953 but household rented decreases...'). Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, such as 'on the other hand' linking parts of the same continuous trend incorrectly, and the paragraphing does not effectively group the information. While there is an underlying structure, the mechanical and sometimes repetitive use of cohesive elements limits the score to Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'household', 'owned', 'rented', and 'accommodation', which are frequently misspelled as 'accomodation'. There are also fundamental word-form errors, such as 'household rented decreases' instead of 'the percentage of rented households decreased' or using 'household' as an uncountable noun in inappropriate contexts. The lexical range is limited and barely adequate for the task, with frequent errors in spelling and word choice that occasionally strain the reader's understanding. This performance aligns with Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for task completion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed compound sentences, and complex structures are largely absent or faulty (e.g., 'many people in England and Wales can not afford to buy a house'). There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('only 22% household is owned') and tense inconsistencies ('household owned decrease and household rented increase'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, placing it firmly at Band 4.5.
