Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart well, identifying overall trends such as the steady rise of homeownership and the corresponding decline in rented accommodation between 1918 and 2011. Key data points are reported, such as the peak of rented housing in 1918 at above 70% and the rise of owned accommodation to 69% in 2001. However, there are minor reporting inaccuracies and chronological slips in the data sequence, such as stating that rented accommodation dropped in '1981 im 1991' and omitting the 1971 data point for rented accommodation. Furthermore, the overview lacks a clear summary statement at the beginning. Nevertheless, all parts of the prompt are addressed and the core comparison is clear, placing this at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement and attempts logical sequencing by contrasting rented accommodation with owned accommodation. However, paragraphing is poorly managed, as the entire response is condensed into two massive blocks of text without proper division. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused, and the lack of punctuation makes transitions between clauses clumsy (e.g., 'gradually started to decreased the percentage is followed by...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and run-on sentences disrupt the logical flow. These issues reflect Band 5.0 characteristics, where organization lacks sufficient paragraph structure and cohesive management is inadequate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with appropriate topic-specific terms such as 'percentage', 'households', 'owned accommodation', and 'rented accommodation'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary and lexical phrases like 'gradually started to decrease', 'remain stable', and 'climbed notably'. However, there are notable word-choice errors and spelling mistakes ('accomodation', 'decreased' instead of decrease, 'Althoug'). Repetition of basic phrasing is noticeable throughout the response. The lexical range is sufficient to convey the main message, but errors in spelling and word form prevent it from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.5 appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent punctuation errors, particularly run-on sentences lacking periods or commas (e.g., 'On the other hand the household in owned accomodation is at the lowest and accomodation in owned household increased climbed notably...'). Verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement are occasionally faulty, such as 'the percentage almost remain stable'. Attempts at complex structures often result in grammatical errors that require the reader to slow down. Because errors are frequent and punctuation is largely neglected, the grammar descriptor fits Band 5.0.
