Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at only 107 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of the task. While the student attempts to provide an overview and mentions some key features such as the trends in owned and rented accommodation and the peak figure of 69% in 2001, the data points are occasionally imprecise or inaccurate (e.g., stating rented accommodation started at 78% rather than 77%, and claiming it ended at 35% when the final figure was 36%). Furthermore, comparisons are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth to fully satisfy the prompt requirements, restricting the band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text attempts a logical structure with an introduction, body, and conclusion, but the overall organization is hindered by the extremely short paragraph lengths and weak progression. Sentences like 'To begin with the owned accommodation the gradually change appears' demonstrate a lack of smooth transitions and cohesive devices. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with single-sentence paragraphs disrupting the flow of the response. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical repetition of transitional phrases prevents the text from achieving a higher coherence band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several awkward word choices and forms. For instance, the student writes 'the gradually change appears' instead of 'a gradual change occurred' and 'rented households accommodation' instead of 'rented households'. There are also frequent issues with word families, such as using 'decline' as a noun or verb incorrectly ('the percentage of rented house decline every year'). The range is minimally adequate for the task, but errors in collocation and lexical control restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, relying primarily on simple sentence structures that often contain basic errors. There are numerous structural inaccuracies, such as 'The given bar chart give the information' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the number of owned house is gradually increase' (incorrect verb tense/form). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with run-on sentences and missing commas. Because complex structures are either absent or attempted with frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
