Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The student attempts to summarize the main trends in the chart, noting the general shift from rented to owned accommodation between 1918 and 2011. However, the task achievement is significantly undermined by severe data inaccuracies and confusion regarding the categories. For instance, the student states that the percentage of rented accommodation dropped to 'around 9% in 1939', whereas the actual figure is 68%. Similarly, data for owned accommodation in 1918 is misquoted as '22%' instead of 23%, and subsequent numbers become confused due to misuse of vocabulary like 'tenets' and 'landlords'. While an overview is attempted, the fundamental misinterpretation of the data points places this response at Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into four paragraphs, which shows an awareness of structural organization for an academic task. However, coherence is severely disrupted by inappropriate cohesive devices, confusing referencing, and illogical progression. Phrases such as 'In the graph paradoxical pattern was observed' and 'Somehow, minor reduction taken into account' sound unnatural and obscure the flow of ideas. The pronoun referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader confused as to whether the writer is discussing renters or owners. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links between sentences are weak and mechanical, justifying a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary range is limited and contains severe word-choice errors that impede communication. The student repeatedly uses incorrect terms, such as 'tenets' (likely meaning tenants) and 'landlords' (when referring to rented households), and uses phrases like 'how much amount of households was owned' and 'slight inclination'. There are also fundamental typos and word formation errors, such as 'makeup' instead of 'making up'. Because the lexical items are often inaccurate and confusing in an academic context, the vocabulary performance falls squarely into Band 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical control is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in passive voice, tense consistency, and preposition use, such as 'were accounted for rented their accommodation', 'These percentage were reduced', and 'few people were owned the households'. Articles and plurals are also mishandled ('majority of the tenets', 'number of landlords were increased'). While meaning can sometimes be extracted, the high density of basic and complex grammatical errors causes significant strain for the reader, corresponding to a Band 4.5.
