Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the prompt by describing the main trends in owned and rented accommodation from 1918 to 2011. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that 'rented accommodation has significally reach at peak' in recent years, whereas the chart shows rented accommodation actually fell to its lowest point around 2001 before rising slightly in 2011, while ownership was the dominant trend. Furthermore, the mention of '1939, there was significant growth of rented rooms till 31 percent' is entirely contradictory to the chart data where rented accommodation was 68% and ownership was 32%. Additionally, the word count falls just short of the 150-word minimum at 149 words, resulting in a minor task achievement penalty. Overall, the ideas are under-developed and misread.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall coherence are heavily disrupted by inaccurate statements and confusing transitions. For example, sentences such as 'In recent years, the household owning was not in trend' directly contradict the visual data and make the overall narrative difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as 'whereas' and 'whereas there is a huge drop in rented accommadation from 1981'. Paragraphing is attempted, but ideas within the paragraphs lack a clear, logical sequence. Referencing is also faulty, making it hard to track whether the student is referring to ownership or renting at various points.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent vocabulary errors and misspellings throughout the text. Words such as 'accommadation' are misspelled, and terms are often used incorrectly, such as 'household owning', 'owning resource', and 'rented rooms' instead of 'rented accommodation'. Collocations are weak, and the student struggles to use precise language to describe statistical trends. While there is a basic attempt to use terms like 'percentage' and 'drop', the persistent errors in word choice and spelling noticeably hinder communication and clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical, such as 'The chart illustrates about the percentage of households...' (unnecessary preposition 'about') and 'In 2001, There is a huge drop of percentage from rented to owning them' (tense inconsistency and poor phrasing). There are frequent errors in verb tenses, prepositions, and articles throughout the text. While some basic sentences are formed correctly, the density of grammatical errors causes difficulty for the reader and prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
