Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by describing the main trends in owned and rented accommodation between 1918 and 2011. However, the overview is poorly integrated, and some of the data reported contains inaccuracies or vague approximations, such as claiming rental housing reached 33% (which is close to the 2001/2011 figures) without clear chronological sequencing. While the main features are touched upon—namely the growth of homeownership and the decline of renting—the response lacks a fully developed overview and fails to make clear, accurate comparative points throughout. This places the task achievement at a Band 5.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text suffers from poor paragraphing and a lack of cohesive devices, making the progression of ideas difficult to follow at times. Sentences are loosely strung together without clear logical links (e.g., 'In contrast, beginning of the years domestic unit...'). Reference words are sometimes ambiguous or misused. Although the response attempts an introduction, body, and conclusion-like summary, the lack of effective cohesive management and abrupt transitions severely limit overall coherence, resulting in a Band 4.5 to 5.0 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and awkward phrasing such as 'domestic unit', 'owner housing', and 'rental housing accommodation'. There is also a lack of control over word formation and collocation. While the writer attempts some less common terms, inaccuracies in usage impede communication in several places. This level of lexical control corresponds to a Band 4.5, which rounds to a Band 5.0 descriptor profile for limited range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring a very limited range of structures and frequent basic errors. There are numerous issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency (shifting inappropriately between past and present), and missing articles (e.g., 'in England and Wales', 'its goes on'). Complex sentences are rarely attempted, and when they are, they contain noticeable grammatical flaws that cause difficulty for the reader. This performance aligns with a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
