Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by describing the main trends in the bar chart, noting that rented accommodation decreased while owned accommodation increased overall. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that rented households were 'near by 70%' in 1939 and 1953, whereas the data shows 68%. Furthermore, the claim that 'There were same percentage of household in both owned and rented accommodation from 1991 to 2001' contradicts the visual data, which clearly shows homeownership at around 68-69% and renting at 31-32% during that decade. The overview is also rather simplistic. Because of these noticeable misreadings of the data, the task achievement is limited to a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into four paragraphs, including a brief introduction and an overview, which demonstrates a basic attempt at paragraphing. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing statements and faulty cohesion. Phrases such as 'The rented households were more than 70% in 1918 that decreased to near by 70%' lack clear logical links. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are inadequate or misused, resulting in a disjointed reading experience. While the text has an overall arrangement that attempts to follow a chronological path, the execution of cohesive relationships is weak, corresponding to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'accommodation', 'percentage', and 'stable'. However, there are numerous word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'housing societies' instead of housing types or tenures, 'rented houdehold accounted at 40%', and 'slightly incriment'. Spelling errors like 'deacrease' and capitalization issues ('england and wales') also detract from the quality of the response. The lexical control is generally at a Band 5.0 level due to these noticeable errors and limited flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The bar graph gives information about... and 'The rented accommodation showed slightly incriment after 2001 to 2011 whereas owned household was gradually deacrease'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The household in owned accommodation was considerably increased', 'both rented and owned household were same share'), and missing prepositions. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
