Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main trends in the chart, noting that homeownership increased while renting decreased overall, and correctly points out the 1971 crossover point (50%). However, there are significant factual inaccuracies regarding the data. In the overview, the student states that owned accommodation experienced a downward trend, which directly contradicts the visual data showing a substantial rise from 23% to 64%. Furthermore, the body paragraph incorrectly claims that in 1918 more than 40% of households rented houses (the actual figure was 77%) and makes clumsy mathematical comparisons (e.g., 'almost 4x'). While the main features are touched upon, the misreadings of the chart pull the task response down to a band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, providing a basic organizational structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by confusing contradictions and poor sentence flow, such as the dangling clause 'while , households who rented house showed upward trajectory'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or incorrectly, particularly in the final sentence ('wheareas follow the same but slightly rise in 2011'), which is grammatically incomplete and fails to link ideas clearly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the disjointed concluding sentences demonstrate weak control over overall coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'upward trajectory', 'significantly', and 'witnessed a growing trend'. However, there are frequent word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'figures of owned accommodation' instead of levels of homeownership, and typos like 'neaky' instead of 'nearly' and 'wheareas'. The repetition of basic terms like 'data', 'households', and 'accommodation' restricts the lexical range. While meaning can generally be extracted, the noticeable errors and restricted vocabulary place this at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in punctuation and sentence construction, such as missing articles, incorrect prepositions ('in a opposite way'), and unfinished thoughts in the final sentence ('wheareas follow the same but slightly rise in 2011'). Subject-verb agreement and comparative structures also show frequent errors (e.g., 'the data of ownership rose significantly and was similar in 1939 and 1953 was nearly 30%'). These persistent mistakes frequently cause difficulty for the reader.
