Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons between households in owned and rented accommodation from 1918 to 2011. An overview is successfully provided, noting the general upward trend in homeownership and the downward trend in renting, alongside the notable point where the two intersected in 1971. However, some details are slightly inaccurate or under-developed, such as stating that the 2011 homeownership figure fell by 3% when the chart indicates a drop from 69% to 64%, and some descriptions lack precise extension. To reach a higher band, all key data points should be reported with complete accuracy and supported by fully elaborated comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for each housing category. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences and sentences that start with 'But in year 1971 it is noticed...' or 'In year 1991and 2001 its reamined constant'. Paragraphing is present, but referencing and logical progression within paragraphs are occasionally clunky. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer needs to use a smoother variety of cohesive devices and ensure that ideas flow logically from one sentence to the next without abrupt shifts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the general trends using words like 'ratio', 'percentage', 'trend', and 'constant'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'accodomation' instead of accommodation, 'whales' instead of Wales, 'decreased' used as a noun phrase element, and 'proprtion'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and attempts at less common lexical items are accompanied by inaccuracies that occasionally distract the reader. To improve, the writer should expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word forms, and eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting structures like relative clauses and time phrases. However, there are frequent structural errors and issues with articles, prepositions, and verb tenses, such as 'household in rented accommodation decrease', 'in year 1918 it is just approximately 22%', and 'its climbs at year 2011'. Punctuation is also weak in places, such as missing spaces after commas ('1991,2001'). These errors are noticeable and occur regularly, although they rarely impede overall communication. To move higher, the writer must exercise greater control over basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency.
