Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the chart, providing an adequate overview that highlights the shift from rented to owned accommodation over the period. However, some aspects are under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating that households owned homes at approximately 22 percent in 1918 when the figure was closer to 23 percent, and misinterpreting the regions as two different countries rather than a single combined area ('England and Wales'). While key trends are identified and comparisons are made, the development of some data points remains limited, placing the response at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically, moving from an introductory overview to specific body paragraphs detailing chronological trends. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'By the year of 1918', and 'In 1971', but referencing and logical flow are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in the abrupt transition to the 1981 data at the end. Paragraphing is present, although the text trails off incomplete in the final paragraph, which affects the overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive terms such as 'massive decreament', 'stability', 'surge', and 'fluctuated'. However, there are notable lexical errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'chat' instead of 'chart', 'appartments' instead of 'accommodation', 'decreament' instead of 'decrease' or 'decrement', 'Conversly', and 'steadly'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect typical limitations at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic narrative structures and time markers. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('majority of the families', 'percentage of rented appartments'), awkward prepositional use ('By the year of 1918', 'in the period of 1918 and 2011'), and tense inconsistencies like 'didnt change'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the sentences remain generally understandable.
