Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing 138 words instead of the required 150 words. Furthermore, the task is only partially addressed. The overview is confused and factually inaccurate, claiming that there was the highest number of households in rented homes and the lowest in owned homes overall, which contradicts the graph where ownership overtook renting in the 1970s. The reporting of data contains major inaccuracies and confusion, such as stating that between 1918 and 1961 there was a 'huge amount households in owned accommodation, which were around 60% to 80%,' whereas owned accommodation actually started at 23% and only reached 41% by 1961. Key trends are poorly identified and supported, resulting in a minimal and inadequate coverage of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'However,' but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is extremely fragmented and disjointed, with single-sentence paragraphs that disrupt the logical flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are used inaccurately or repetitively, such as 'which were' and 'between in,' leading to confusing referencing where it is difficult to determine what the pronouns or clauses refer to. The overall arrangement of information is disjointed, making the text hard to follow cohesively.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The response contains noticeable word choice and collocation errors that cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'rate of households' instead of 'percentage of households', 'rented home' instead of 'rented accommodation', and 'peoples prefer to lived' which mixes lexical and grammatical issues. There are also awkward phrasings like 'owned home' and repeated use of basic terms. While attempts are made to use descriptive vocabulary, inaccurate word forms and restricted flexibility constrain the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent attempts at complex sentences resulting in severe structural faults and ungrammatical fragments, such as 'which were around 60% to 80%' and 'which were 50%, both were similar.' There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense usage, and missing verbs (e.g., 'lowest number of household in owned home' and 'peoples prefer to lived'). Punctuation is also problematic, including run-on structures and misplaced commas that impede communication and cause difficulty for the reader.
